Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year

February marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year.   2014 is the year of the Horse.  Regardless of what fortune the year of the Horse brings your Chinese zodiac sign, you can benefit from a Tui Na session or a Chinese style massage.

A Tui Na massage is beneficial for everyone regardless of age physical condition.  For the athlete it can ease sore muscles from an intense workout or help to balance out muscles from specialized training.  For the general population it can help to improve overall health and wellness.  Last, for individuals recovering from surgery or injury it can help reduce pain and restore proper function.

On the surface, Tui Na appears to be a simple massage modality.  Indeed it's name is roughly translated as, "to push and pull" or "to grasp and kneed".   Observing a Tui Na treatment it may look lacking in sophisticated techniques or like very little skill is needed.   Its' simple presentation is deceptive however.
Tui Na is a Chinese style of massage dating back over 4000 years.  It is often associated with Qi Gong(Chi Gong), Tai Chi, fire cupping, acupuncture and herbal medicine.   In the hands of an experienced therapist, Tui Na is a profound experience for the client.  As in Qi Gong or Tai Chi, Tui Na uses the elements of moving energy or chi to promote optimal wellness.  It is a highly effective style of massage that produces the following:

  •  eliminates energy blockages
  •  increases blood flow
  • allows muscles to relax
  • facilitates detoxification

Initially a Tui Na massage looks simple.  Its' profound healing capacity comes from a therapist highly trained the nuances of facilitating the movement of energy or chi.  Gary Wass has over twenty years of martial arts and massage therapy experience.  This in depth training in both art fields brings a deep understanding of how to move chi.  The client experiences this as a deep but gentle massage that is highly relaxing and reduces pain and restores optimal function.
